Our History

How Kappa League began

Kappa League is a subset of Guide Right, the national service initiative of Kappa Alpha Psi® Fraternity, Inc.

  1. The beginning

    The Kappa Instructional Leadership League

Under the chairmanship of Mel Davis, the Los Angeles Alumni Chapter’s Social Action Program took the form of a training activity for young men at Alain LeRoy Locke High School. It was designed to help young men grow and develop their leadership talents in every phase of human endeavor, through challenging and rewarding experiences that richly enhanced their lives.

  2. February 12, 1969

    Kappa League is founded

The Los Angeles Alumni Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi® Fraternity, Inc. founded Kappa League at Alain LeRoy Locke High School. Its founders were Mel L. Davis and Edgar H. Bishop, an Elder Watson Diggs Awardee. Membership was open to students in the tenth through twelfth grades.

  3. August 12–15, 1970

    Adopted by the Grand Chapter

Kappa League was adopted by the Grand Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi® Fraternity, Inc. at the 56th Grand Chapter Meeting. The fraternity sought to help young men achieve worthy goals and make constructive contributions to their communities as leadership roles became their responsibility.
