The 2025 Southwestern Province Kappa League Conference, held from February 28 to March 2 at Southern University in Baton Rouge, LA, was an action-packed weekend filled with inspiration, learning, and brotherhood. From the moment the journey began, it was clear this would be an unforgettable experience for both students and advisors alike.

A Journey of Discovery and Brotherhood
The adventure kicked off with a bus ride from Plano, TX, to Grambling, LA, where students had the incredible opportunity to tour Grambling State University. Welcomed by enthusiastic campus ambassadors, the young men engaged in a thought-provoking Q&A session, where they gained insight into college life, the transition from high school, and the keys to thriving academically and socially.

The ride to Baton Rouge was filled with laughter, debates, and camaraderie as Kappa Leaguers from across the province connected, exchanging ideas, aspirations, and plenty of jokes along the way. Meanwhile, advisors and fraternity brothers rekindled their bonds, reminiscing about their own college experiences and reinforcing the powerful legacy of Kappa Alpha Psi. And then there was the “count”….and we wont talk about that! But I think there are 48…or 50….or 47…..Maybe we all got back!!!

Once in Baton Rouge, the Baton Rouge Alumni Chapter welcomed attendees with a delicious dinner and conference registration. This was more than just a meal—it was a gathering of generations. Brothers who crossed together years ago reunited, shared stories, and captured memories through pictures, all while inspiring the next wave of Kappa Leaguers to continue their journey of excellence.

A Day of Growth, Leadership, and Service
Saturday morning launched with a powerful welcome address from the Southwestern Province Guide Right Chairman, setting the tone for a weekend of empowerment. The Kappa League Creed was recited with passion and conviction, reminding everyone why they were there—to lead, serve, and uplift.

From there, students dove into four impactful breakout sessions designed to equip them with the skills necessary for success:
📚 Educational Excellence & Leadership – Unlocking the keys to academic achievement and leadership development.
👔 Dressing for Success & Executive Presence – The art of first impressions, professional attire, and commanding respect in any room.
💰 Financial Literacy – Understanding money management, investing, and building wealth for the future.
🧠 Mental Health & Conflict Resolution – Tackling stress, maintaining emotional well-being, and navigating challenges with confidence.
Beyond the sessions, attendees explored Southern University’s campus, engaged in a community service project, and even had time for a friendly basketball showdown, where competition and sportsmanship were on full display.

An Evening of Fundraising and Fierce Competition
As night fell, the energy only grew stronger. First came an online fundraising challenge, where the students’ drive and determination shone through—within just two hours, over $5,700 was raised! The collective effort and teamwork demonstrated the true essence of leadership and service.

Then, the highly anticipated Southwestern Province Student of the Year competition took center stage, with the Richardson Plano Kappa League Chapter making a bold statement with three standout competitors—each placing among the best:
🏆 Amari Sanchez – 3rd Place (Southwestern Province Leon Steward Award)
🏆 DJ Henderson – 2nd Place (Southwestern Province Student of the Year, 9th-10th Grade)
🏆 Kazion Harris – 4th Place (Southwestern Province Student of the Year, 11th-12th Grade)

It was a powerful night of recognition and celebration, as students were rewarded for their hard work, dedication, and leadership within their chapters and communities. The evening culminated with Brother Burnett not only recognizing the winners and participants of the conference but also recognizing his predecessor and Guide Right mentor Brother Larry McGee Jr. (Prior National Guide Right Director).

A Weekend to Remember
As the conference wound down, students and advisors reflected on an unforgettable weekend of learning, growth, and brotherhood. With new friendships forged, wisdom gained, and memories made, everyone left inspired to continue their journey toward excellence.
Sunday morning, the buses rolled out of Baton Rouge, carrying home the next generation of leaders—equipped with new skills, powerful connections, and a deeper understanding of what it means to be a Kappa League man.
